Science Fair Food Projects aE

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Why do we all love the science fair food projects so much? I think it is because they are so spectacular and we can see the results very clearly. What I think is important, is looking at it another way. The one about the bread mold can be looked at from two sides. One way of looking at it is the growth of the mold itself, meaning growth. The other side is looking at it from the decay side, mold as part of decay.

I think the bread mold one as the mold growing is the most well known one, but now I want to look at it from the decay side and see mold as part of the decay process. What is the role of mold in the process of decay and how can decay be stopped or slowed down.

So, first what is decay? What is the role of decay in nature? What are the conditions necessary for decay? How can decay be slowed down?

For good science fair food projects we always have to start with a hypothesis, which is saying what we want to prove and what we think the outcome will be. It is not important if your hypothesis is proven right or wrong, as long as you follow the proper scientific method and keep record of everything you do. This is the reason why you have to make meticulous notes of all your steps and preferably also take photos of every step as well as the end result.

So, on to our experiment now:

What you need for your experiment:

How to do this project:

This is one of our science fair food projects where we explain how decay can be prevented instead of proving what mould needs to grow on as in the usual “Bread Mould” projects.

Plastering: Science and Art Process

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Over the years, plastering rose to become one of the more popular and important trades and processes in home improvement industry. Despite its rising popularity, it is still a misunderstood art. It is a common misconception that plastering can only be carried out by painters and decorators. Fact is, a decorator can make simple plaster repairs only or at most, maybe even plaster a wall. However, he does not have the required skill level and experience as a professional plasterer. Because of the several types of plaster availability, only a skilled plasterer can comprehend the real advantages and disadvantages of each type of product.

Plastering is one way to improve strength or seal walls with cement or lime based product designed to dry quickly. While the original purpose of plastering is to strengthen walls and prevent weather from getting inside a structure, the fact that it has eventually evolved to a craft and art form is nonetheless undeniable. In some levels, plastering has become an integral part in the finishing touches of any carpentry project. Because of the varying plaster properties, many plasterers are able to create unique decorative moulds with plaster. This in itself is part of the plastering process. As such, plastered walls demonstrate texture and shaping. Typically, you will also notice that there are different techniques used in wall and ceiling plastering. As it is, this is all part of the skill of application.

A lot of people actually think that plastering is easy. Apply this and that (like what you do in painting) and then that’s it! This is actually a misconception and is actually far from the truth. Plastering is such a complicated process that there is much to know about how to do it properly. This includes what kind of plaster to use for each specific surface type, how thick to spread the plaster and which design will suit different plastering purposes. As with everything else, learning how to do it is not actually that difficult but it will take experience to gain considerable skill to master it. It is best that you consult an expert and maybe take a plastering course before launching into your own plastering project. This way, you will be certain to know the proper techniques before you get started, thus, avoid errors and wastage.

One should take note as well that plastering requires special cleanup methods. Plaster products can interfere with the flow of plumbing systems downstream of the disposal area. Plaster residue of these products will most likely solidify underwater and plug up drains, stain gutters and sidewalks and spoil planting areas.

If executed well, plastering could prove to be very beneficial to home improvement and repair, not to mention the artistic value it can provide to the adept.

Communication in Romance

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Romance. Can it be discussed? It has to be experienced, isn’t it? But, let us talk of romance, because we cannot avoid discussion about it. Let those in love, decide how correct is the below discussion on communication in romance. Romancing is not a science, but an art. When you talk to your beloved, you talk not only with your words, but with your eyes and your body

language.

Everything takes part in communication with your sweetheart. How does one talk to one’s beloved? Most of the lovers swoon at the sight of their beloved. How do we expect them to talk? But their sweetheart wants to talk and they want to talk. They both want to share everything in each other’s life. They share their dreams, they share their agonies and pains and they share their goals and failures. They share everything, because they are two bodies, but one heart.

Romance has its own flavor, a different flavor. Romance is a different emotion compared to all other emotions. It’s much different compared to emotions such as anger etc. They are all negative, but romance is a positive emotion or feeling. In romance, one ignores every fault of his/her sweetheart and only finds everything good and glorifies it. In love, the afternoon sun is as beautiful as the sunset. Such is the wonder of romance that it changes a person totally.

Coming back to communication, how does one do it in romance? Does one convey love every single day? Does one talk only of love and nothing else. Otherwise it may kill the romantic mood! Does one only dream of good things and avoid every talk of anything negative? What and how does one communicate while romancing? Yes, it is true that most of the romantic lovers talk only of positive things and avoid everything negative. It is also true that talk is mostly about love, because they are romancing. Isn’t it? It is true that the couples dream of great things and avoid contemplating any negatives. Send some wallpapers to your sweetheart and convey your love for Valentine. Download them on your computer and go in the mood of love.

Romance is different. In romancing there is no place for anything that may kill the mood. Romance means talking of moon, and not the sun. But you can talk of sunsets. Romance does not think about the fate of fallen flowers, but only admires the beauty of flowers smiling on the branch. Romance is different and it is great. The world already has innumerable problems, and romance is much needed to create a positive atmosphere. Romance is a dream.

To know more about romance, why not go in the mood yourself and experience it?
